El Yunque National Forest

Driving Directions to the Main Entrance to the Forest on Road PR 191 North in Rio Grande:

From the Airport/San Juan:

Enter the Román Baldorioty de Castro highway (PR-26) toward the east.
The highway will merge into highway PR-66 (toll road).
Continue on PR-66 until it ends and turn right onto PR-3 East.
Stay on PR-3 for approximately 6.3 km.
After entering Rio Grande, you will turn right onto PR-191
Continue on 191 up the mountain until you reach the entrance sign for El Yunque National Forest.

Driving Direction to the South Entrance of the Forest on Road 191 South in Naguabo:

Please note that there was a landslide in the 1970’s that permanently disconnected the two parts of road 191. To reach the southern side, you must drive all the way around the forest. Driving directions from the Fajardo area:

Continue on Route 3 east and continue on to Highway 53 (toll road)
Take the exit for Route 31 west (exit #22 for Rio Blanco).
Follow Route 31 to Route 191.

Driving Directions to the Main Entrance to the El Verde 186 area in Rio Grande:

From the Airport/San Juan:

Enter the Román Baldorioty de Castro highway (PR-26) toward the east.
The highway will merge into highway PR-66 (toll road).
Continue on PR-66 until it ends and turn right onto PR-3 East.
Take your 1st right onto Road 186 at El Verde and continue this road.
